US Border Biometric Rule: Mandatory for Green Card Holders & Non-Citizens Starting Today (2026)

The US border is about to get a whole lot more high-tech. Starting December 26, all non-US citizens, including Green Card holders, will be subject to mandatory biometric entry-exit checks at border points. This means that every time they enter or exit the country, they can expect to have their photographs taken by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials. But here's where it gets controversial... This new rule isn't just about taking photos. The CBP may also decide to collect fingerprints and iris scans and match them against existing travel documents as part of the Traveler Verification Service. So, will diplomats and Canadians be exempt? The answer is no. Diplomats and Canadians will also have to provide their biometrics. But what about US citizens? They are exempt from the biometric collection, but they can voluntarily participate in the facial biometrics process at entry and exit. So, is this a masterstroke in the immigration fight or an overreach of power? The debate rages on, and we want to hear from you. Do you think this new rule is necessary, or is it an invasion of privacy? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
