Predicting When the Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Will Release
For a couple of months now, Marvel fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of the first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer. The film, set for release at the end of July, was expected to have launched its marketing campaign much earlier, especially considering the apparent leaks of the trailer that surfaced online back in December 2025. These leaks seemed to indicate an imminent debut, yet here we are in February 2026, and there's still no sign of it.
The wait has been in stark contrast to Marvel's approach to marketing Avengers: Doomsday. Even though that movie doesn't release until December, it's had not one, not two, but four teaser trailers, each playing exclusively in theaters for a week, attached to screenings of Avatar: Fire & Ash, before releasing online. So, what's the reason for the delay, and when might the Brand New Day trailer finally arrive? And what about the Super Bowl?
Why Isn't the Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Releasing During the Super Bowl?
As the weeks went by and it became clear the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer wasn't dropping, expectations shifted towards the Super Bowl. This sporting event is a prime opportunity for releasing movie trailers, attracting one of the biggest captive audiences in marketing. However, reports indicate that there won't be a Brand New Day trailer at the Super Bowl 2026, and neither will there be one for Avengers: Doomsday. While disappointing, this shouldn't be too surprising.
Super Bowl spots are incredibly expensive, with reports of at least one this year going for $10 million. Given that Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to be a major box office hit, the question arises: Is the expenditure necessary? Sony, the studio behind the film, seems to think not, which aligns with its overall approach to the big game. Sony skips the Super Bowl more often than not, and the only major trailers released in the last decade are 65 (2023) and Life (2017), neither of which justified the investment. The last Spider-Man Super Bowl spot was for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, so it makes sense that there won't be one this time around.
Even if the trailer isn't at the Super Bowl, it's reasonable to expect its release soon. One possibility is that it will follow the Super Bowl closely. Sony Pictures Releasing, the distributor of the animated sports movie Goat, which releases on February 13th, has a significant release until Brand New Day itself. If Sony aims to boost its own movie, as studios typically do with trailer drops, and capitalize on a double holiday weekend (Valentine's Day and President's Day), releasing the trailer in the week after the Super Bowl, when it can capitalize on the hype, wouldn't be a bad strategy.
Beyond that, predicting the exact release date becomes more challenging. The trailer might debut before Pixar's Hoppers, which releases on March 6th, or Project Hail Mary, expected to receive rave reviews and release later in March (March 20th). Alternatively, if Sony wants to push the release to April, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is projected to earn over $1 billion at the box office, would provide a huge audience. However, a Spider-Man movie trailer will be an event regardless of when it drops.
Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, both July releases, had dropped their first trailers by now (December for Homecoming, January for Far From Home). However, Spider-Man: No Way Home took a delayed approach, using the hype for its trailer to its advantage. Sony was aware that the returns of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were widely known, and the trailer released in August 2021, ahead of its December release. This strategy proved successful, with the movie grossing $1.9 billion, and it explains Sony's patience in building demand for the trailer.
If they follow the same pattern, the trailer's release date would be April 6th, 2026, 116 days after the release of the movie. Considering the film releases on April 1st, could the Brand New Day trailer finally drop on April Fool's Day? It would be a bold move, but an amusing one.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31st, 2026.
