The Iconic Rajinikanth's Brief Yet Memorable Bengali Cameo: A Musical Tribute
Rajinikanth, the legendary Tamil actor, celebrated his 75th birthday, marking a remarkable 50 years in the film industry across multiple languages. But did you know he also made a brief yet memorable appearance in a Bengali film? In the 1995 action drama Bhagya Debata, Rajinikanth played a singer in the title track, a rare foray into Bengali cinema. This cameo remains his only venture into Bengali cinema during a career spanning over 50 years.
The film, directed by choreographer Raghuram, starred Mithun Chakraborty as Jagadish Mondal, a hero fighting for the oppressed. Rajinikanth's appearance was a personal request from Mithun, honoring their friendship. The song became quite popular, adding to the film's success. The ensemble cast also featured prominent Bengali actors such as Soumitra Chattopadhyay and Rituparna Sengupta.
This wasn't the only time Rajinikanth and Mithun Chakraborty collaborated. They previously worked together in the 1989 Hindi film Bhrashtachar.
