Get ready for a thrilling sports story! The Cleveland Browns are on the hunt for a new head coach, and they've set their sights on a defensive mastermind.
On Friday, the Browns interviewed Aden Durde, the defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks. Durde is the fourth candidate in the running, following interviews with Tommy Rees and Jim Schwartz from the Browns' own coaching staff, and Dan Pitcher from the Cincinnati Bengals.
But here's where it gets interesting: Durde's defensive prowess is no secret. In his two seasons as the Seahawks' defensive coordinator, he's made a significant impact. During the 2024 season, his unit finished strong, ranking highly in key defensive categories. They allowed an average of only 18.4 points per game, ranking fifth in the league, and held opponents to just 304.8 yards per game, good for fourth overall. Their pass defense was also impressive, ranking sixth with an average of 205.0 yards allowed per game during Weeks 11-18.
And in 2025, the Seahawks defense continued to thrive under Durde's leadership. They allowed the sixth-fewest total yards per game (285.6), the tenth-fewest passing yards (193.9), and an impressive third-fewest rushing yards (91.0) in the entire league. Not to mention, they held opponents to a mere 17.2 points per game during the regular season, the lowest in the NFL.
But Durde's success isn't just limited to Seattle. Before joining the Seahawks, he spent three seasons with the Dallas Cowboys as their defensive line coach. In his first season, his unit recorded an impressive 23 sacks and pressured opposing quarterbacks on 237 dropbacks, ranking third in the league according to Pro Football Focus. The following season, the defensive line continued to thrive, contributing to 44 of the team's 54 sacks.
Prior to his time in Dallas, Durde worked under Dan Quinn with the Atlanta Falcons, where he held various coaching roles, including defensive assistant and outside linebackers coach. He also served as the head of football development at NFLUK, guiding the International Player Pathway program, and was the defensive coordinator for the London Warriors for six seasons.
And this is the part most people miss: Durde's journey began on the field as a linebacker in NFL Europe, where he played for six years with the Scottish Claymores and Hamburg Sea Devils. He was even a part of the Hamburg team that won the NFL Europa World Bowl XV Championship in 2007, the final championship in the league's history.
So, as the Browns consider their next head coach, Aden Durde's impressive resume and defensive expertise are certainly worth noting. But what do you think? Is Durde the right fit for the Browns? Share your thoughts in the comments and let's discuss!
